T-Rex: Slang changes all the time, and pretty rapidly too. No kid wants to use the same slang their parents use, because there's nothing less cool than your parents sounding like you and vice versa!

T-Rex: Except "cool" has somehow endured!

T-Rex: Things were cool in American Black dialects by the 1920s (and possibly as early as the 1880s!) - meaning "something desirable." But while we no longer go "on a toot" (drinking) or speak of flivvers (crappy cars), we still think things are cool! How has this 20s slang endured where others have failed??
