← January 9th, 2012 → is it crazy to expect a zero chance of being murdered, and if so, why is that crazy –...
The haps: To be fair, TRex's 520000/year number matches up with our murder count for us in the year 2000, but we had six billion people alive then, so that's just 8.6 × 10^^{5} murders per person, which I've written in scientific notation in order to make the number seem EVEN SMALLER! The other day I linked to my list of books read in 2011, here's Emily Horne of A Softer World Dot Com's much more interesting list! The problem with these lists is they take literally a year to prepare and then they're read in a few seconds, so we need tons of people to read them so that the total number of seconds spent reading equals, well, a full year's worth of them I'd expect – Ryan
